The whole team and three bikes travelled to Cologne, Germany last week to attend our first FIBO event. Here's a quick overview of how we got on...
What is ‘FIBO’?
FIBO takes place every April in Germany, and is one of the world’s most important exhibitions for the fitness industry.
2016 was the biggest FIBO Show yet; Activetainment was one of 960 exhibitors showcasing to a record-breaking 153,000 visitors (83,000 of them trade visitors) from all over the world.
Why were we there?
We exhibited as part of FIBO Expert, which is THE destination for managers, distributors, suppliers, decision makers, investors and trainers to see the latest innovations and products in fitness equipment and technology. Companies exhibiting range from the largest world leaders, such as Life Fitness and Technogym, to smaller, newer companies like ourselves.
With our product and software development now at a stage where we’re ready to appoint distribution partners in each of our target markets, we identified FIBO as the best platform from which to launch ourselves to the European fitness industry. After speaking to contacts, we agreed it was the best space for us to meet with, and demo our bikes to, potential distributors, decision makers, partners and customers.
We’ve found that the best way to inspire people’s interest and excitement in the ebove concept is to not only let them try the bike, but to also highlight the levels of interest in our product. Letting people see the queues by our stand, the smiles on people’s faces whilst they are trying the bike and giving them time to soak up the ‘buzz’ surrounding what we have created leaves them in little doubt that the ebove concept really is an exciting innovation for the indoor fitness world.
We went to FIBO with the aim of meeting distributors from our key target markets in Europe and some from the USA and went with a number of meetings already lined up with some of the important players from these regions. We were hopeful (and confident!) that people would agree we had a great product and would see us as a serious, innovative fitness company with a genuinely exciting and revolutionary product that they could see themselves and their customers and clients using.
We are all so happy with the response from literally everyone that came to see us and that tried the bike. We had a small stand in a relatively poor location, but this wasn’t an issue. We had queues during most of the day on all four days of the event, with several people coming to see us more than once because they wanted one more ride on the bike.
The first two days of the show, Thursday and Friday, were dedicated to trade visitors only, and these were our two busiest and most successful days, with a wide range of quality distributors, gym owners, personal trainers, representatives from large fitness brands and athletes visiting our stand.
We signed a number of Letter of Intents (LOIs) with distributors from many different regions, some we’d arranged a meeting with and some who heard about us and came to see us. We will now enter more detailed talks with about selling our bikes in their markets.
One of the most rewarding parts for us was walking around other stands and being recognised as ‘the people with the ebove bike’. It was amazing how many had heard about the bike and how genuinely excited they were about the product and its potential. We also made a lot of useful connections with companies that, at some stage, we hope to be able to collaborate with on both our software and hardware.
We also had some incredible feedback from other exhibitors from different sectors, many of whom came to find us specially after they had heard people talking about us.
Another standout point for all of us were comments from several people that we were the best thing at FIBO this year!
We’re all feeling very inspired and motivated by the feedback from FIBO. We’ve booked a much larger stand already for 2017 and next year we’ll be back bigger and better than ever before. FIBO is one of our most important industry events, and we will use 2017 to really make our mark on the world’s fitness industry. Thank you to everyone who came to find us, we're so pleased you could see for yourselves just how exciting the ebove bike really is.
We’re now working hard to build and capitalise on all the interest that we received. We will share more details once we have formally signed and agreed terms with new partners, so stay tuned!
